Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 11, 2026
This policy describes the privacy boundary of the nonlinear. desktop beta and this website.
Desktop data stored locally
The desktop app stores original documents, searchable copies, document search, chats, reusable instructions, and settings on the user's computer. Nonlinear. does not keep a cloud copy of the complete case folder or chat history.
Outside AI processing
Nonlinear. is not fully offline. When it needs help reading a document, it may send the necessary pages to an outside AI service. When a user asks a question, it may send the relevant excerpts needed for that answer. That service handles the material under its own contract, privacy terms, retention practices, and legal obligations.
Confidential work requires a paid AI service with privacy terms appropriate to the user's professional obligations. Users should not rely on free or consumer-service privacy terms for confidential client material.
Website and account information
The website may process email addresses, authentication events, license status, download events, subscription information, support requests, and limited security logs. Cloudflare may process network and request information needed to host and protect the site. If billing is enabled, Stripe processes payment details under Stripe's own policies; nonlinear. does not store card numbers.
Diagnostics and feedback
Desktop diagnostic reports are created locally and are designed to omit document text, chat text, credentials, and provider keys. A report or feedback message is transmitted only when the user chooses to send it. Users should review any attachment before submission and should not include confidential documents unless specifically required and authorized.
Security
The desktop app keeps its local service on the computer and uses the operating system's protected storage where available. No software or online service can guarantee perfect security.
User responsibility
Users are responsible for confirming that they have authority to process client material and that their use complies with professional duties, court orders, contracts, privacy laws, and firm policies.
